This week has been thrilling, tiring, short, adventurous, long, fun, and beautiful, all in one.
On Sunday I said good bye to everyone and hopped on a plane, where four crying babies sat in the row in front of me. Thankfully I did have lifesaving earplugs and headphones and was able to catch some sleep.
I arrived in Munich on Monday morning @ 8am where I met two of the head people at Salzburg University, as well as the twelve other brave souls who will be studying with me. From the airport we dropped our 1,000 lb luggage off at the Wombat Hostel. Six girls in one room and one bathroom...it was a very good way to get to know each other. Then we explored the city and ate dinner at a famous bar hall, but I cannot remember the name at the moment. After that we explored the city and went to bed very early.
The rest of the week we took a tour around Munich which included a view of the city after climbing more stairs than I can count. We went to an art museum with roman and greek marble sculptures, toured olympia park, the BMW museum, hiked the alps to see a castle, and had lots of free time to explore the city ourselves.
On Thursday we squished our junk back into our suitcases and loaded up on a train to Salzburg. After quite an adventure on the train we finally arrived with a welcome from our host families.
I have a host mother, but I am also living with one other student from texas. My host mother is a free spirit, she is very crazy but sweet. She thinks artistically and that is why they thought I would be best with her. Most things she is very laid back and care free but she is very particular about some small things, like hair in the shower. She is a character for sure, but she is a great cook and she is very kind. The girl that is also living here is a photography major and she is a hippy like me. She loves fashion and we have alot in common so I am so excited to get to know her better. I do have my own room but I share a bathroom with both my host mom and roomie for the semester so I am sure we will all be very close by the end.
My new backyard is gorgeous, there is a garden of all kinds of flowers, than a bright green park, and MOUNTAINS all right near my house! The whole setting looks like it is from a fairy tale.
Vocab for the day: A cellphone is called a handy.
